Daily Motivational Tips to Get in Shape
Craving that food!
During a one day mind and motivation seminar I gave we did an exercise where we used Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) on trying to break the connection to your very favourite food. What I found interesting in this exercise is that:
1) Everyone in the room had a different favourite food. This shows how the desire / love / addiction for our favourite food has nothing to do with the property of the food itself, in other words, it is in your head and not in the food.
2) That for all of us the food reminded us to being a child and for most of us it reminded us to Christmas. This shows that when eating the in the present day it was linking into enjoyable memories and feelings from the past. (An emotional anchor)
While the above two points may not be ground breaking news to you it serves as a timely reminder to one of the main reasons we eat our favourite foods. It is as much to evoke the good memory as it is to enjoy the taste of the food itself. If you can replace or reduce this emotional anchor you will be able to lessen any ties you have to your favourite foods.
Mind-body change exercise
- What are the foods you crave the most?
- What do they remind you of?
- To reduce some of your ties to try and think what non food and drink activities also remind you of this same time period and / or give you the same feeling?
