Change Your Thinking – Change Your Shape –
Daily motivation Tips – One step at a time
One sure way to be knocked off track is to resolve to have a great week or day only to mess up a meal early on in the time period. The end result is that you become discouraged and put it off for the moment and start again tomorrow or next week. When you start again it will be the time when you ‘really start’. In the mean time you eat rubbish and put off until tomorrow yet again what you could have started today!
The simple truth is never erring – You are in the game of health whether you want to play along or not! So comforting yourself that tomorrow is the time to start is all well and good but to your body it makes no difference what you think. A sure fire way around this is to change how you judge or rate progress:
Judge your progress meal by meal NOT daily or weekly.
A great days eating is made up of 3-5 good meals, a great weeks eating by 21-35 great meals. The individual meal is what makes the results happen. If you focus solely on this and not on anything else you are on the path to success.
The problem with weekly or daily reviewing is that a wrong food early in the plan justifies you to eat rubbish until the next time period starts. Alternatively you may have a great day or week and deem this as a reason to go off the rails to celebrate or reward yourself.
When you judge each meal by itself you can never be on or off the plan, as each meal is an opportunity to get some success. It is a little difficult to transform your thinking from day to day evaluations to meal by meal (snack to snack as well) but ultimately when you think about the smallest building block the rest looks after itself.
Going forwards clarify what your nutrition strategy is, then focus on getting each meal right! Use the mirror or clothes to gauge the progress of your nutrition strategy. Then keep your judgment to a meal by meal basis, even if you have 15 great meals Monday to Friday keep your focus on that next individual meal (as opposed to saying I had a great week so let’s go crazy this weekend). If you are basing your effort solely on the will power method you will struggle with this as you will desperately search for that justification to break your routine.
Mind body change exercise
- How do you currently evaluate your progress and over what time period?
- Resolve today to just focus on the next meal and once that has passed the next meal after that.
- Any meal you get perfect celebrate greatly your success. Congratulate yourself, bask in the glory of the way everything fell into place. Once the meal has passed, forget what happened and focus again on the next meal and repeat.
