Daily Motivation Tips – The Breakfast effect
This refers to the importance of a regular meal such as breakfast compared to what you do on a Saturday night. People who are out of shape will almost always focus on how they had one meal out in a restaurant or that they had one or two bits of chocolate during the week. They focus on this while ignoring what they ate for breakfast and lunch each day. This shows an imbalance in their approach. If you eat 21 meals a week how can you blame that one dinner out on not getting results? This is exactly what the overweight person does. He/she blames that one meal instead of taking the time to address their regular 9am – 5pm meals.
To me breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It sets the tempo for the day ahead. Breakfasts are almost always free from social influences and have much less emotional ties. They also comprise up to a third of your weeks meals. You cannot afford to get this wrong.
Western society has a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a more typical ‘meal’ for dinner. Did you ever ask yourself why this is the case. Why do we not have it the other way round? Why do we not have cereal for dinner instead of breakfast? I have been to China, Malaysia and many other countries where this is not the case. I have seen rice dishes, curry, raw fish and many other foods for breakfast. Would a cave man have different foods for breakfast than dinner? The reason we are cereal based at breakfast time is all to do with advertising and little to do with nutritional facts.
My breakfasts are identical to evening meals. They will have a protein source from meat or fish, vegetables and a fat source of course. When I discuss this topic I almost invariably find that out of shape people look on in horror of choosing any other food but their bowl of cereal. However, how could you afford to get 7 meals a week totally wrong and then demand you get results and be in awesome shape? If you are saying, “but cereal is healthy”……then just stop and look at the results you are getting! Are YOU in shape? If not, then something you are doing is not right. Breakfast should be one of the very first places you visit on your quest for results.
If you want balance in your life and not to worry about your eating when out in a restaurant then it can often be achieved simply by ensuring your breakfasts and lunches are perfect. This will guarantee at least two thirds of your week is in place. However, you may find you have to change away from that ‘healthy’ bowl of cereal.
