Daily Motivation Tips -  The Phoney War

Yesterday I went to the War museum. It was great fun as ever! I read about World War 2 and the Phoney War. This was the term used to describe the early stages of the war. The country was fighting with Germany after it invaded Poland yet to everyone in Britain it did not feel like anything was going on. The affects had yet to spread to affect the general population at home in Blighty and hence the term phoney war.

I liken getting into shape with this exact same set up. The real battles, the real elements that determine success, the real war will be so subtle and silent you will probably not even spot them as they happen.

I first noticed this when doing a parasite cleanse, I was all psyched up to do it! All I had to do was take some anti-parasite herbs, cut out grains, dairy and fruit and hold on for 2 months! I was pretty pumped up to face this challenge but there was one problem…….. There was no problem to face up to!  For me to be successful it was about ensuring I prepared my lunch the night before, it was about making sure I had food in the house, that I avoided getting hungry etc. It had no big ‘psych’ me up battles.

This is the problem with getting in shape, the basis of your results will be on how well you eat with a bit of exercise tagged on for good measure. Where exercise is easy, because you can see it coming and get ‘psyched up’ using the Ipod, mirror, friends, personal trainer or the like. The real battle is when you are a little bored and hungry two days later. It is when you should go to the supermarket but that TV show is on. It is when you are feeling down and a bit tempted to head out for a few drinks. It is always a subtle battle when you are not feeling that excited. Personally though I found whenever I spotted a battle in the phoney war I easily overcame it, remember these little battles are not too hard to beat but it is just you usually fail to spot them as they come along.

Mind – Body change exercise

  • What are the real battles in this ‘phoney war’?
  • What can you do to notice the battles when they actually come up to subtly challenge you?
  • When you notice these subtle challenges remind yourself of your goal and they will effortlessly be overwhelmed.
  • If they still prove an obstacle despite being brought to conscious awareness then you are probably dealing with emotions, happiness or related behaviours. Use EFT and keep reading the newsletter for how to address that.
